Rio-(G)-Blu-Ray worthy)

Nobody really likes birds. At least, that was the fact until Angry Birds came out. That game has excited the nation for some reason. It’s extremely hot right now, but I have a feeling that it will blow over soon. Anyways, nobody really liked birds until that game, so producers decided that they should make a bird movie, because it would actually appeal to an audience. I must say, Rio was a success. It is about Blu, a bird who is the last male of its kind. He has been domesticated by an average girl. The girl (now a woman) was approached by a scientist, and told that he has to be brought to Rio de Jeneiro to mate with the female, in order to preserve the species. No young child will actually understand the plot, but I recently gave up on children’s movies having plots that make sense. It made partial sense, but I don’t go into a children’s movie expecting a believable storyline. The story of how Blu ended up with the girl didn’t make much sense, but who cares? The three key points to this movie are animation, characters, and overall child appeal. The animation was dazzling and bright. The colors were unlimited, for both the birds and the scenery. The birds all looked perfect, from their feathers to their eyes. The birds all looked cartoonish, but in a realistic way. The other animals, like the dog, monkeys, etc. The humans were also animated well. There was no complaint about the picture from me. The scenery of Brazil was captivating. This movie looked exactly like the real place. It nearly inspired me to take a vacation. The scenery was very absorbing and large, and I believed every inch of it. All in all, the birds, the humans, and the scenery will satisfy you and beyond.

The characters are extremely important in all cases, but they are most important in children’s movie’s. It doesn’t take much to get a kid liking a character, and they always have a new favorite every month, but kids don’t go to the movies. They can’t decide themselves, their parents have to bring them. Parents call the shots when it comes to kid’s movies. This movie’s characters will hook the parents from the trailer. Jesse Eisenberg, (the Social Network) Wanda Sykes, (Over the Hedge) Jane Lynch, (Glee) Jamie Foxx, (Due Date) Will i Am, (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) Anne Hathaway, (Love and Other Drugs), Jake T. Austin (Wizards of Waverly Place), George Lopez (George Lopez) and much more. This cast will appeal to the adults, which makes this movie interesting. You fall in love with these characters because you know who is doing their voices. This is where Cars 2 fell short. There were no funny cameos or famous voices being added to the sequel. Thankfully, Rio makes you love the characters. Oh, and the kids will like the birds too. Lastly is the child appeal. Rio attracts adults because of the actors, but how is the basic humor? Will the kids get it? The kids get their humor. Guys falling, monkeys getting hit, and the colorful birds will enjoy the humor. Thankfully, though there is some adult humor. The adult humor mainly comes from the Brazilian people. It is funny how oblivious or funny some of them can be. Also, the adults will love the animals. The thieving monkeys, the slobbering bull-dog, and the two local birds will crack you up. Overall, this is a great animated movie. Not only does it appeal to children, but it appeals to adults. When your kid or brother asks you to see this, don’t think: Oh God. Another time I have to drag my brother. No, be happy. Grab your brother by the ankles, drag him to the car, and see this, because it is just as good as Rango, but better. It was better because it was faster paced. Anyways, Rio was the bomb. Check out this T-Bone ASAP.

Rango-(PG)-(Blue-Ray worthy)

I am not a fan of Johnny Depp. I think that he is a fake. He has this facade put up, and its not fooling me. But I’m not here to rant about Johnny Depp. I’m here to review Rango. It is about a lizard who is knocked out of his terrarium and stranded in the desert. He winds up in a town named Dirt. Why? Its water shortage is depressing the inhabitants, and there is no stability. The lizard make a name for himself, Rango, and tells how he is the fiercest guy in the west, how he killed 7 guys with 1 bullet, etc. He becomes the new sheriff, but he makes some enemies along the way, and discovers who is behind the water shortage. The three key points to this movie were acting, animation, and humor. I found it funny how many critics said, “Johnny Depp’s performance was amazing.” I thought this was nuts! He wasn’t in the movie! He played a voice of an animated lizard! At least, that’s what I thought. After I saw the movie, I could understand what the critics meant. Johnny Depp did at least three different accents and voices as Rango. He was truly a character, and he did his voice very well. The other characters were also well acted. Next is the animation. The characters well greatly detailed, and so was the environment…but the main attraction for me were the eyes. Rango’s eyes, Bean’s eyes, Jake’s eyes, EVERYONE’S eyes were so big and colored.

The animation technology we have today was definitely used in this film. It looked great and the lighting was superb. So the acting and the visuals were great, but what about the humor? An animated film for a younger audience isn’t a success without some humor. Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, and Finding Nemo, all successful movies, have humor in them. Rango had hum0r, but I must say, it had some jokes directed to adults. In fact, lots of the movie was directed to adults. Phrases like: “Son of a-” (Getting cut off by a hawk kah.) “Sign the damn papers”, “Go to hell”, and other phrases were pretty frequent for a PG movie. Also, most of the characters smoke cigars. Plus, alcohol is found at a bar. A bar in a PG movie? And there were also a lot of firearms. Did I care? No. It’s usually what’s in movies…I was just shocked because there were five year olds watching the movie. I guess it was added for the older audience. Overall, Rango is a money maker. The kids want to see the lizard, the teens want to hear Johnny Depp, and parents are forced to take their kids to see it. That’s a big audience! Overall, I liked this movie. Nothing really bugged me about it. I was worried that the Spanish owls would make this a Spanish drama, but I forgot about them within the first 10 minutes of the movie. And when you see Nickolodeon branded on the opening credits, don’t freak. For once they didn’t make a failure. It was a T-Bone, fresh and meaty.

Interesting Facts: Rango’s name is not actually Rango.

When Rango breathes on the glass in the terrarium in the beginning, it fogs up. This is impossible. He is a cold-blooded animal.

The Incredibles-(PG)-(Blu-Ray worthy)

It came out in 2004, and since then, I’ve seen it almost 20 times. This movie is about Bob and Helen Parr, two super heroes who relocate o a new home to start a new life, after the society finally decides that they don’t want superheroes in their lives anymore. The heroes slowly relocate, find homes, and lead normal lives. What’s so exciting? Well, Bob is doing crime fighting work behind his wife’s back, which gets her suspicious. She suspects he is cheating on him, and at the same time, Mr. Incredible (Bob) is hunted down by his biggest fan, Buddy, for he has been rejected and ignored by Mr. Incredible as a kid. It sounds very anti-climatic, but it’s more complex than that. The three key points to it were characters, visuals, and music. The characters were hard to hate. Bob Parr is super strong, like any super dad. He takes charge as the family guy, trusts his instincts, and loves his kids….very realistic beside the super strength part. Helen Parr is very…elastic? She could stretch he body like a rubber band, and is as flexible as can be. She is very concerned about her family, like any mom is, and is a thinker. Dash Parr is the boy in the family. He has super speed, and is very loud like every little brother should be. Violet Parr is Dash’s older sister, who is extremely shy. She has the power of invisibility and force fields. She is seen growing more social and outgoing throughout the film, mainly because of taking charge of her brother and her crush. Next is Jack Jack…the seemingly normal baby. His power is…well…you discover at the end of the film. I think he kicks butt.

After that is Frozone. As you could probably guess, he controls ice, and he is a very companionable and funny character throughout. There are some other characters, but these are the main ones. The visuals were pretty impressive. They weren’t as great as How to Train Your Dragon, but the darkness, brightness, and shine was applied very well to the scenes and costumes. The animation was three dimensionally great, and even those stinking robots looked stunning. For 2004, it has some fantastic animation. The music was fitting for a family super hero film. It fit the old essence of retired super heroes. It was lively and fit the scenes. The music wasn’t even too loud…it was well composed and well brought together. The music wasn’t its high point, but it didn’t fail to impress. To see this movie, get ready for action, great characters, and a family worth cheering on.  If it had a more popular cast, it would be a Filet. I’m not saying that Samuel L. Jackson, Jason Lee, and Holly Hunter aren’t popular, I’m just saying some characters should have been played by bigger stars…anyway, The Incredibels turned out great, and it is a must see for adults and kids. Overall, this was a Super powered T-Bone.

Interesting facts: When Dash had to huff and puff after running, the actor had to run laps around the studio to make the breathing sound realistic.

There are 35 explosions in this film.

The movie was originally called The Invincibles

How to Train Your Dragon-(PG)- (Blu-Ray worthy)

This movie is almost as hyped as Avatar, and 98% of the critics loved it, so I just had to get down to the theater to see it. Well I have to say, the critics, for once, are right. This was a great family movie that even teens will enjoy. It is about a boy named Hiccup, who’s father is the leader of the Vikings. Dragons keep stealing the Viking food and livestock, so the Vikings are fighting back, still, Hiccup doesn’t want to kill dragons, becuase he learns that they are actually nice and tame creatures. He then finds an injured dragon that he trains. Learning how his dragon is tamed, he uses it in the ring in which he trains. Then, after Hiccup finds out why dragons are stealing food,(for a giant dragon) he tells his father, but his father tries to kill the dragon. I cannot give away anything else :) If you want to see a movie with your family, see this right away, and fast. You can still enjoy it without 3D, but that’s your choice. This is a heart warming, corny Fan Boy and Chum Chum movie, right? WRONG. There is tons of fire, lots of weapons, some humor, action, and outstanding animation. Boys would like this better than girls, but there’s a bit of a love story, so moms and daughters would enjoy it. I was impressed, because it wasn’t all children’s humor, like the Shrek Series. It had some adult humor, like when Hiccup receives his mother’s breastplate as a helmet. It was very fun and it didn’t have a dull part. It wasn’t complex, but had enough story to be great for an animated movie, and you have to see it. Filet Mignon is present.

Interesting Facts: The appearance and behaviour of Toothless was inspired by cats, dogs, and horses.

It took hundreds of takes for Hiccup’s lines to be perfect.
