Hello ladies and gentleman! This is Movie Monday, the weekly series where I bring you movie news hot from the press. I pick the most interesting pieces and trailers and bring them right to your computer screen. Without further ado, here…we…go! (Dark Knight reference in anticipation of DKR)
First off, let’s talk Avatar. We recently got news from Sigourney Weaver saying that the three Avatar sequels are being filmed at the same time. The three films will be filmed beginning this fall. This is most likely because of Cameron wanting to hang onto his cast, not wanting to swap out actors midway through the series of movies. This is a bit disappointing to me. The whole spectacle of Avatar was the technological advancement that it brought to Hollywood. Instead of seeing Avatar movies get more gorgeous every time they are released, they will be equal in quality. Cameron has set a bar so high that he cannot land lower than the first Avatar. Good luck Mr. Cameron. You have your work cut out for you.
Next up, Ted broke a record! It has the highest grossing opening for a non-sequel, R-rated comedy. It made 54.1 million dollars, beating the Hangover, which made 45 million dollars on its opening. Congrats to Ted.
And here comes news that will make you shake your head and sigh. A LEGO movie is being made, LEGO: The Piece of Resistance. It features LEGO Batman and Superman. It will be using LEGO styled animation. Superman is being voiced by Channing Tatum…sigh…The film will be released on Feb. 28, 2014. Good. It won’t be coming out any time soon.
So that’s all for this week! It seems that Hollywood took a break this week. It’s too busy with Tom Cruise at the moment. So how do you feel about the above news? Let me know in the comments.
