Movie Monday: Hobbit Sequels, Morgan Freeman with LEGO Batman, Batman Makes a Billion, Jim Carey likely in Kick Ass 2, Metal Gear, Elvis, and Bible Vampire Movies, Marvel TV Series

As you can tell, I have a lot of news for you. Let’s get started.

The Hobbit sequels now have official titles and release dates. The second movie will be titled: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. That will be released on December 13, 2013, in 2D, 3D, IMAX, and in 24 and 48 frames per second. It has been confirmed that movie goers will not have to pay extra to view the movie in 48 frames per second. If you are not familiar with the worry about the 48 frames per second, or what it is, let me know and I will elaborate. The third film is titled: The Hobbit: There and Back Again. It will release on July 18, 2014.

The LEGO Batman movie sounds like a joke, but now, maybe it can be considered to be an actual film. Morgan Freeman is providing his voice, not for a LEGO Lucius Fox, but for a character named “Vitruvius,” and by the character’s description, he sound like a wise, weird guru type character. Elizabeth Bank is also involved, voicing a character named Lucy, who sounds like a badass chick. (or as badass as a LEGO figure can be.)

Not straying away from Batman, The Dark Knight Rises has grossed 1 billion dollars worldwide. It is now the 13th film to pass 1 billion dollars. The Dark Knight Rises made more money internationally than domestically, and it is speculated to be due to the Aurora shootings. (The Dark Knight made more domestically than internationally, and that is why there is speculation at all.) To finish with Batman news, Batman will not appear in another film until the Justice League movie.

There have been rumors and hints, but now it is confirmed that Jim Carey is playing a villain in Kick Ass 2…kind of. The director of the film, Jeff Wadlow, tweeted this out on September 1st.

As you know, Jim Carey’s famous line, “Alrighty then!” from Ace Ventura is unmistakable. Wadlow is likely putting a spin on it. It looks like Carey is in.

A Metal Gear movie has been announced. Avi Arad will be the producer on the project, and it will be made with Columbia Pictures. No further details were provided. Though I grew up with a PS2, I am not too familiar with the Metal Gear Lore. The extent of my knowledge is Snake, Solid Snake, and Liquid Snake. Is there a Liquid Snake? I would assume so. Oh, and I know that Snake uses a cardboard box.

Elvis is getting a biopic, titled Growing Up Graceland. Who would you like to see play the King of Rock and Roll?

Every now and then, movies are announced and their premise sounds ridiculous. A more recent example would be Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. My review for that is here. Anyway, we’re in luck. We finally get a sane movie. It is about the story of Cain and Abel, from the Bible. Oh, and I forgot to mention that it involves vampires. Will Smith is directing and starring in The Redemption of Cain. God help us all.

A Marvel TV series called S.H.I.E.L.D. has been greenlighted, and it will be co-written and possibly be directed by Joss Whedon. It is going to be independent from the Avengers films. So the show isn’t officially going to be a series on ABC, but it is going to produce a pilot, and we’ll see what happens from there.

SO! What do you guys think of this week’s news? Let me know in the comments below.
